I’m doing a presentation for a project at university today, so I dressed up casual-fancy, including my big pointy van Lier shoes. But then I noticed driving in these shoes sucks, they are way too large to control the pedals with any feel, maybe due to my feet being size 45 EU(11 UK or 11.5 US) the pointy-bits are way too long. So I was controlling the clutch with the point, because the point would otherwise hit the pedal stalk thing, but this made my shifts complete shit.

Well, they door look fancy, so there is that I suppose.

Have this 1996 Renault Megane Coupe with just 128 km for your time:

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

The same dealer also has another Megane Coupe with just 11k km, which had just 604 km a year ago, they probably had them stashed away or something.

I have to drive in trainers then change when I get to where I’m going. Duno if you’ve noticed the same but the point of my shoe hits the steering linkage when I use the clutch if I don’t wear trainers.

Nope, haven’t had any problem with that, probably because my steering linkage goes away from the clutch, while I expect yours goes towards it.

Having larger feet in general sucks for driving many cars. That's one of the reasons I got rid of my E30 years ago. When you hit all three pedals with your size 14 work boots, it's kind of a PITA. It sucks, too, because there really isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

It just takes a minute to get used to it. I up the ante with cuban heels.

I used to drive to and from my job at a ski resort in a manual Scion tC and later a 1985 Toyota 4x4 with snowboarding boots on. US size 12. Neither vehicle had much room down there and pedals were very close together as well. It got to a point where I did not even notice it anymore. But it took a while.

I know it’s illegal and arguably unsafe on the chance that you need to get out of and away from the car in a hurry, but I suspect if the car is on fire I’ll find the inner motivation to sprint through broken glass in just my socks. That’s the risk I take on fancy shoe day. Rather like it. Just make sure you put your shoes in the other footwell as you don’t want one getting kicked and blocking a pedal on your side.

I grew up at the beach and we were always barefoot and I learned how to drive barefoot, so I might be biased by that, but the ability to feel your brakes and right when the clutch catches and releases is hard to beat. Worn out Chuck Taylors are a decent substitute.

I find insanely thin-worn sloppy shoes to be hella nice to drive in too... I really need some proper driving ones, safety boots are so cumbersome :(

I had a hell of a time trying to drive with sandals on. I slipped them off and it wasn;t all that much easier

Shit. You reminded me of another hack with driving in dress shoes. While those wouldn’t ever work with a suit, if you’re wearing jeans and a dress shirt or whatever, bam! Driving shoes in disguise!

I can not drive when wearing any sort of smart\dress shoes, I wear trainers (sneakers) and put the shoes on when I get where I'm going.

Mostly a myth that it's illegal. There's a few cities here and there where it is, but they're very few and far between. It gets taught everywhere along with other myths like crossing a solid white line/pedestrians always having right of way/etc so cops often have it wrong as well.

ETA I’m also discovering how picky everyone else in this thread is about shoes... never really an issue for me

I once drove a car with ski boots on. Hard plastic, heavy ski boots. 1/10, would not recommend.
